Principle of Operation

The Extrudomix mixer/extruder is an efficient combination of high shear mixer and low to medium pressure extruder that kneads, mixes and extrudes in one continuous process; as a standalone unit or in combination with other process equipment. It is ideal for mixing solids and liquids into very viscous and homogeneous pastes as well as plastic masses.

The Extrudomix mixer/extruder has better particle dispersion in comparison to higher pressure systems. It is also less expensive to buy and less expensive to operate.

The Extrudomix has a single horizontal shaft with blade segments arranged in a spiral pattern that move the material through the chamber. Material is fed into the housing at one end and forced forward by the rotating blade segments until it comes in contact with the stationary anvil. Stationary anvils attached to the housing and inserted between the rotating blade segments prevent the material from rotating with the shaft. The resulting effect is continuous kneading and mixing, followed by extrusion through a variety of die which are available in different shapes and sizes.

    The Extrudomix mixer/extruder is suitable for a wide range of process applications, including:

    • Mixing base powders with liquids to form uniform pastes
    • Mixing wet material with powders or liquids
    • Homogenizing filter cakes
    • Homogenizing powders with liquids into a plastic mass followed by extrusion
    • Pre-feeding of caked masses
