ANCILLARIES

Optional additions to Hosokawa Micron powder processing equipment.

BALL SEGMENT VALVE

Hosokawa Micron has developed the unique Hosokawa ISEM ball segment valve as an in- and outlet valve for mixers and vacuum dryers. This valve is gas, dust and liquid tight, has no flow resistance when opened and is easy to clean and access. The full bore passage, the housing without static pockets and the sealing designs make it the best valve for applications where reliability of the valve sealing is a key issue.

The ISEM valve has proven its reliability under difficult conditions and is a very popular valve for process installations using vacuum or pressure in combination with solvents or toxic materials. The ISEM valve has also been adopted by other machine manufacturers as an addition to their own mixers, dryers and reactors.

The special design of the ISEM ball segment valve impresses with its full passage, its housing without hydrostatic pockets and the various sealing materials available. The ISEM ball segment valve is suitable for a wide variety of processes and systems under pressure conditions as well as under vacuum conditions where disruptions in product processing and cross-contamination must be avoided at all costs.

Thanks to their excellent cleanability, ISEM ball segment valves are very popular with OEMs in various industries such as food, chemical, nuclear, minerals and metals.

ACCESS DOOR

Conical reactor vessels can be provided with an access door integrated into the vessel wall for easy access during inspection and cleaning. It offers safe and ergonomic access to the inside of the vessel and its design ensures optimum dust and water tightness with an FDA approved sealing.

SAMPLER

The Hosokawa sampler allows sampling in reactors, blenders, tanks or dryers or similar vessels during operation. Sampling can be carried out under pressure, vacuum or elevated temperatures, without affecting the functionality of the sampler and the Hosokawa sampler fits into the process vessel without creating any dead spots. The Hosokawa sampler guarantees reliable sampling.

The sampler allows for full CIP as well as SIP. A simple click on the back of the handle is all that is required. The plunger can be used in different positions to enable cleaning fluid and steam to flow through the relevant parts of the sampler, ensuring thorough elimination of all contaminants. After cleaning and/or sterilisation, the sampler can be returned to its base position, ready for the next sample.

The latest version is fully compatible with Hosokawa's previous designs, allowing for easy replacement or upgrade.

  • Key features
    • Full vacuum and pressure rated up to 5 bar(g)
    • Process temperatures of up to 200ºC
    • Easy assembly and disassembly
    • FDA-approved construction materials
    • All parts that come into contact with product media are Ra < 0.2 µm W.No.1.4404 (AISI 316L)
  • Various flow positions
    • Position A: Sampler in Sample mode or CIP mode: base position
    • Position B: Sampler in Sample mode: sample flows into the sample container
    • Position C: Sampler in CIP mode: cleaning fluids can flow through the sampling area and the rear of the plunger, cleaning all parts of the sampler
    • Position D: Sampler in CIP mode: plunger moves forward to allow cleaning of the plunger's second seal

CHARGING HOPPER

Conical mixers and dryers can be provided with a charging hopper for manual charging, which can be mounted on the vessel cover and is available in two sizes: for single and dual person operation. The standard model has been designed with a hinged access door, bolted grid and dust exhaust connection. A 'vibrating' grid and/or CIP nozzles are optional.

POWDER FINISHER / CRUSHER

The Hosokawa Powder Finisher is a high capacity continuous de-agglomerator (crusher) that can be used to process bulk powder flows. It uses a high-speed rotor over a screen assembly to create collision forces and friction for efficient and fast de-agglomeration.

The base powder is dosed into the rotor chamber. As soon as the product reaches the rotor, it is forced through the sieve plate in the bottom section of the finisher at high speed. Coarser particles that cannot fit through the sieve are then broken by the impact of the rotor.

Depending on the characteristics of the powder (texture and grain size), the Powder Finisher can crush powders to sizes between 500 and 2000 microns. It can process powders at a rate of up to 40 m³/h. The Powder Finisher is available for testing.

  • Key features
    • Compact design
    • High capacity
    • Suitable for a large range of powders with different characteristics (fatty, brittle, etc)
    • Quiet and vibration-free operation
    • Easy disassembly for cleaning
    • Designs available in compliance with ATEX zone 2-22, cGMP and FDA
    • Custom-designs and mobile frames available on request
    • Suitable for use in pneumatic conveying systems
    • Different rotor speeds and seals available on request
  • Models

The Hosokawa Powder Finisher is available in two main designs: the FD series, which is a heavy duty design with a bearing on both sides for high stability at high capacities, and the FS series with a bearing on just the side of the motor. This makes it easier to mount an inspection hatch, and simplifies inspection and cleaning, as well as easy removal of the sieve and rotor without having to extract the full finisher from the process line. The inspection hatch can be locked electrically or bolted.
