Nobilta extends mixer range

The Nobilta super high shear mixer is a multi-functional processing machine for high speed, precision, powder mixing, particle surface modification and shape enhancement. Particles are combined into composite materials in a dry process without the use of a binder, by applying mechanical force.

Extensive R&D by Hosokawa Micron Corp. in Japan, led to the development of the Nobilta super high shear mixer. Within the Hosokawa Group, Hosokawa Micron B.V. in the Netherlands represents mixing technologies and the Nobilta now extends their range of mixing equipment. The Nobilta super high shear mixer seamlessly complements the range which, until recently, ran from the low shear Nauta mixer to the high shear Cyclomix.

The Nobilta consists of a horizontal cylindrical vessel with a specially designed rotor rotating at a high tip speed of 30 m/s. The rotor configuration has been designed to exert impact, compression and shear forces on each individual particle equally. Adjusting the rotor speed and run time controls the amount of processing (mixing, surface treatment) to the nanoparticles. The vessel is jacketed to prevent heat build-up when processing heat-sensitive materials at high energy levels, preventing sticking and degradation.

Key powder processing features:

  • Composing
Nano-scaled particles are permanently fused onto the surface of micron-scaled particles without binders, combining material properties of different particles into one particle to enhance chemical reaction, flowability, heat resistance, electric performance, and solubility.
  • Precision mixing (Dispersion)
Enabling distributive and dispersive mixing in one apparatus to improve colour, tone, reactivity, calcination ability and mechanical intensity.
  • Shape enhancement (Spheronization)
Improving round shape and reducing BET surface area for enhanced flowability and packing density.

Typically used for high value materials and products such as toner, pharmaceuticals, and fine ceramics, the Nobilta has become established as a recognised device for applications across a range of industries. The Nobilta has direct added value in applications such as Secondary Batteries and Dry Powder Inhalers.
