Hosokawa Micron has introduced a new concept for mixing in the food industry which complements the company's well-known range of Nauta®, Cyclomix and Vitomix mixers.
The Conical Paddle Mixer (CPM) is the newest generation of Hosokawa powder mixers, developed for low and medium-shear batch mixing. It has been designed for mixing powders, granules and solids with liquids. The CPM is a multi-purpose mixer for processes where high accuracy and fast mixing with limited product distortion are important.
The mixing vessel is conically shaped and equipped with a central paddle rotor. When it rotates, the rotor creates a combination of vertical and axial motion in the vessel. The paddles gently guide the product to the surface of the batch, where it is dispersed. The gravitational pull at the centre of the mixer then forces the product back down to create continuous motion throughout the mixing cycle, even at low speed.
The mixing process can be optimized by controlling the mixing energy. This can be achieved by adjusting the rotational speed of the Conical Paddle Mixer, which is typically between 1 and 10 m/s.
The Conical Paddle Mixer ensures minimum product distortion, optimal temperature control and energy efficiency, and fast and full discharge. Furthermore, it has been specially designed to avoid drive parts or zones where product holdup can occur. This maximizes the yield, optimizes the hygienic design and improves cleanability. These design features make the CPM highly suitable for a variety of applications in food processing, such as the mixing of fragile powders and 'instant' agglomerates and mixing of powders with liquids.
